August 1, 1975, Fred W. Johnson purchased Muir Bookkeeping from Lois Muir. In September of the same year, office space consisting of one private office and an open, general area was leased at 109 Broadway, Orangeville. Fred operated the practice under his personal name: Fred W. Johnson, Chartered Accountant.
The firm initially operated with four staff: Fred Johnson, CA, Brenda Johnson who did the firmís bookkeeping, staff accountant, Bruce Hartford and receptionist/typist, Lois Muir.
In January 1979, the firm purchased the accounting business of Lis Hood, with Lis becoming an employee of the firm.
In the summer of 1979, Fred welcomed certified general accountant,Bill Theeuwen to assist him in his practice. Fred and Bill had worked together at Howard Vickery, CA in Brampton and worked well together. The business flourished and another chartered accountant, Peter D. Booth, joined the firm in January of 1981. Peter and Fred worked together at McGillvrey CA in Brampton while they were both in the CA program. The firm operated out of offices in both Orangeville and Erin under the name Johnson and Booth.
With the addition of staff came the expansion of the office itself. The firm now boasted four private offices, one computer office, two general office areas, a waiting area and a vault for client files and records. There would be one more expansion, to add a larger computer room with the old computer room becoming a private office, before the firm outgrew its home at 109 Broadway.
In November 1987, the property at 245 Broadway was purchased. The old building was demolished and a new one built. Construction began shortly after the contract was signed on October 17, 1990. The move to the new premises was made on July 29, 1991.
In 1995, Charles Jenkins merged his practice with Johnson and Booth. Although Charles joined the J & B staff in January 1995, he decided to leave the practice in August 1997 and move to Brampton.
Eventually, Peter Booth opened his own practice in Hillsburgh and on August 1, 1996, the firm name was changed to F W Johnson, Chartered Accountant.
